Where to Stay in Vienna for André Rieu’s Wiener Stadthalle Concerts

Where to Stay in Vienna for André Rieu’s Wiener Stadthalle Concerts

When André Rieu brings his Johann Strauss Orchestra to Vienna for two nights at the Wiener Stadthalle, it feels less like a tour stop than a homecoming. This is the city of the waltz, of grand ballrooms and coffee houses, and the Maestro’s two concerts on 6 and 7 November 2026 are a wonderful excuse to spend a long autumn weekend here. Where you sleep shapes the whole trip, so here are four hotels that keep you close to the music, with the best of Vienna just a metro ride away.

Why Stay Near Westbahnhof

The Wiener Stadthalle sits in Vienna’s 15th district, a short distance from the Westbahnhof railway station, and its main hall holds up to around 16,000 spectators. After a night of Strauss waltzes, that is a lot of people heading for the exits at once, which is exactly why a hotel within walking distance, or one metro stop away, makes the evening so much easier. The neighbourhood around Westbahnhof is also well connected: the U3 line runs from the station straight into the heart of the city, so St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the old town are never far away.

1. Cocoon Wien Westbahnhof – Boutiquehotel StadthalleBoutiquehotel Stadthalle

Visit the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle

True to its name, this boutique hotel on Hackengasse is among the closest places to stay to the Stadthalle, within an easy stroll of the venue. Guests regularly praise the friendly, helpful staff, the thoughtful design and the generous breakfast, and the quiet rooms make it easy to wind down after a big evening. It suits couples and music lovers who want a characterful base without a long journey home. One tip: some rooms are in a building without a lift, so if stairs are a concern, mention it when you book.

2. The Companion ViennaIdeally located Vienna hotel

Visit the The Companion Vienna

Just across the road from Westbahnhof on Mariahilfer Strasse, The Companion is a stylish, design-led hotel with a bar that guests love and a reputation for warm, attentive service. Rooms are well soundproofed and comfortable, and the station on your doorstep puts the U3 and U6 metro lines within a few steps. From here you can walk to the venue or ride the U6 one stop to Burggasse-Stadthalle. It is a lovely choice for a special weekend, and dogs are welcome too.

3. Motel One Wien-WestbahnhofIdeally situated in the center of Vienna, just off the train station

Visit the Motel One Wien-Westbahnhof

Smart, modern and right beside the station on Europaplatz, Motel One is the practical choice for fans who would rather spend their budget on tickets than on a room. Guests often highlight the unbeatable transport links and the efficient, friendly service, and the contemporary rooms give you everything you need for a short concert break. It works especially well if you are arriving by train, since you can be checked in within minutes of stepping off the platform.

4. Hotel Kaiserin ElisabethAustrian class, in Vienna's city center

Visit the Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth

If you would rather stay in the middle of old Vienna, Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth is a classic address on Weihburggasse, steps from St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Stephansplatz metro station. Guests speak warmly of the large rooms for a European city centre, the service and the breakfast, which includes Viennese specialities. On concert night, take the U3 to Westbahnhof and change for the U6, a short and simple journey. It is ideal for travellers who want sightseeing, shopping and cafés on their doorstep and the Stadthalle a quick ride away.

Getting to the Wiener Stadthalle

The nearest metro station is Burggasse-Stadthalle on the U6, about a five-minute walk from the venue. From Westbahnhof it is just one U6 stop, or roughly a 15-minute walk if the weather is kind. Trams 6 and 18 also stop at Burggasse-Stadthalle, and trams 9 and 49 stop at Urban-Loritz-Platz, a few minutes on foot from the hall. Whichever way you travel, leave a little extra time on the evening, as the area is busy when a big concert is on.

Make a Trip of It

Vienna rewards a long weekend. Arrive early to wander the Innere Stadt, take coffee and cake in one of the grand cafés, or visit the Hofburg and the great concert halls that made this city the capital of classical music. If you are following the tour, Bratislava hosts André Rieu on 4 and 5 November, only about an hour away, and our Bratislava hotel guide will help you plan that stop too. You can find tickets for both Vienna nights on the event pages for 6 November and 7 November, and more stays on our hotel recommendations page.

An Evening to Remember

There are few better places to hear a Strauss waltz than Vienna itself. With a comfortable bed close by and the Stadthalle only a short walk or metro ride away, you can let the evening unfold at its own pace, from the first violin to the last encore, and walk back into the Viennese night with the music still in your head.
