In July 2023, a 15-year-old girl from Maastricht walked onto the stage of the Vrijthof, the square where André Rieu holds his summer concerts, and sang a song she loved. Within days, the performance had travelled around the world. The girl was Emma Kok, the song was “Voilà”, and what followed turned a single evening into one of the most talked-about musical partnerships in André Rieu’s recent career.
How It All Began: A Phone Call From Pierre Rieu
Emma’s route to the Vrijthof started with a song. She had already sung “Voilà”, the French ballad by Barbara Pravi, on the Dutch programme Mini Stars, and the performance caught the attention of the Rieu family. Emma has explained that it was Pierre Rieu, André’s son and a producer in the family business, who phoned her. Soon afterwards she was invited to perform it with the Johann Strauss Orchestra at the Vrijthof, in her own home town.

The Performance That Went Around the World
The recording of that evening spread quickly online and has since collected well over 100 million views on YouTube. What made it special was not only the voice, but the contrast: a teenager singing with composure beside a full orchestra, in front of thousands of people on a warm summer night, in the city where she grew up.
From Guest Soloist to World Tours
The Vrijthof was only the beginning. According to Emma’s official website, she joined André’s second world tour, which began in Germany in January 2025 and took her from Munich to Berlin, from Hamburg to Nuremberg. Her schedule then continued to cities including Athens, Sofia, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Vienna and Paris, a long way from a single Maastricht square.
That kind of exposure matters. Arena audiences who came for André often left talking about the young Dutch singer, and fans who had first found her online were suddenly hearing her live.
Emma’s Own Career
Emma has also built a career of her own. In October 2025 she gave her first live concerts at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and both shows sold out immediately. A live EP followed, and the full concert was later released as an album. In February 2026 she began her first theatre tour, “Never Lose Hope”, visiting 28 theatres across the Netherlands, and she wrapped up the tour at the open-air theatre in Valkenburg on 29 July. During the premiere in Maastricht she also received the Vrouw in de Media Award for the province of Limburg.
“Never Lose Hope”
The title of her tour and her book is more than a slogan. Emma has lived with a chronic condition since birth, gastroparesis, which affects her daily life, and she speaks about it openly. The award jury praised her as an inspiring role model, and it is a large part of why audiences feel such a personal connection to her.
Will Emma Join André Again Soon?
Fans often ask whether Emma will appear at André’s upcoming concerts, so here is what can and cannot be confirmed. André’s 2026 Christmas concert film, “Let It Snow”, which is heading to cinemas, features Emma singing the classic “Let It Snow!” alongside a 100-voice male choir, sopranos and skaters.
For the live shows, the picture is less clear. André’s official page for the Christmas concerts at the MECC in Maastricht on 11-13 and 18-20 December 2026 promises “world-class soloists and special guests” but does not name individual performers, and Emma’s own events page does not currently list any dates with André. We will update this article as soon as official lineups are announced.
If you are planning a trip, our concert calendar lists every confirmed date, and it is always worth checking André’s official tour page for guest announcements closer to each concert.
A Voice and a Story Worth Following
What began with one song on a summer evening has grown into something lasting. For many fans, Emma Kok represents the quiet magic of an André Rieu concert: a moment when someone steps forward, the orchestra begins to play, and thousands of people feel they are watching something genuinely special unfold.
